Larry Cheng, Founding Partner

Larry Cheng is a founding partner at Volition Capital and focuses on investment opportunities in transactional Internet applications, e-commerce, digital health, and next-generation consumer brands. Larry was a part of the key investment team for both Connatix and Chewy, two of Volition’s notable exits, and serves on the boards of Arteza, Burst, Grove Collaborative and Mosaic to name a few.

Sean Cantwell, Managing Partner

Sean Cantwell, managing partner and member of the founding team at Volition, focuses primarily on companies in the software and tech-enabled services sectors. Sean serves on the board of several companies including Assent Compliance, Black Kite, Creatio and JazzHR, which exited in 2021.

Jim Ferry, Partner

Jim Ferry, former analyst and principal at Volition and current partner, joined the firm in 2014. He focuses on internet and consumer investments, specifically consolidation platforms, the movement of physical things, ad tech, marketplaces and other internet transactional businesses. Jim currently serves on the board of Doing Things, Dragonfly and Rounds.

HAAS Alert provides a digital alerting solution for fire, police, EMS, and tow fleets to effectively alert civilian drivers of emergencies in advance of lights and sirens to help increase road safety. In order to facilitate real-time alerting, its software connects into the fleet’s existing telematics hardware on their vehicle or offers its own device that collects and broadcasts accurate, location-based alerts either directly into car dashboards or through navigation apps.

Moziac’s proprietary tech architecture ingests sales reports/invoices, calculates each party’s owed amount, and pushes payments directly to bank accounts instantly eliminating the need for manual calculations, excel trackers, and third party payment platforms.

Zenarate is a conversation simulation training SaaS solution for call centers. Its lynchpin offering AI Coach serves as a virtual role-play partner for agents to rehearse “stories” – i.e., templates for how to optimally handle types of common queries – and receive feedback based on their performance relative to the client’s best-practice criteria.

Co-Founded in 2007, by Sachin Nayyar (CEO) and Tanuj Gulati (CTO), Securonix is an Addison, TX-based vendor of UEBA (User Entity and Behavior Analytics) and SIEM (Security Information and Event Management) software. The company’s platform, dubbed “SNYPR”, utilizes a combination of machine learning-based analytics and a Hadoop-based big data platform, enabling Security Operations teams to digest log data from disparate security and business applications to identify and remediate external and internal threats.

JazzHR: Exited in 2021

Founded in 2013, Connatix is a native video monetization and syndication platform for publishers and video content creators. The company’s platform enables publishers to easily create native video ad placements, and its syndication network connects publishers to relevant third-party content and thousands of premium advertisers, helping to maximize revenue.

Capital Responsibility

Assent and Recycle Track Systems are examples of only two portfolio companies focused on improving sustainability efforts and capabilities. Volition firmly believes that all portfolio companies should prioritize corporate social responsibility and encourages them to focus their efforts on ESG and sustainability.

Furthermore, Volition Capital as a firm has been carbon-neutral since 2022. Volition partnered with Climate Partner to audit business operations and understand (and reduce) its carbon footprint. By analyzing emissions, Volition was able to offset the carbon emissions they produce as a firm by investing in projects that specialize in reducing carbon and improving environmental efforts. To put words into action, the firm has invested in Plastic Bank Worldwide, Hydro Power in DR Congo, and Wind energy in Brazil.
