Biography

Farouk is a Partner leading the Mercury fund and team in North America for Hg, a leading transatlantic software investment firm with over $100 billion in AUM. He originates, evaluates, and manages investments in the lower middle market across the firm’s core thematic clusters, with an emphasis on partnering with and transforming founder-led businesses.


A thought leader in GenAI, he continues to help organize the firm’s annual Software Leadership Gathering, which brings together approximately 100 executives from top software and AI companies globally in Lucerne, Switzerland. In the past year, he has served on panels and hosted podcasts with visionaries from companies such as Replit, Mistral, and Perplexity.


Before joining Hg, Farouk was a Founding Partner at SQN Investors, where he incubated the firm’s private equity arm focused on structured growth and control investments in global software companies. Prior to SQN, he spent over a decade at HGGC, where he helped build and lead the technology investment practice, and JMI Equity. Investments, board roles, and portfolio companies have included Empyrean Solutions, CINC Systems, Cornerstone OnDemand (acquired by Clearlake Capital), Bigtincan (acquired by Vector Capital), AMI (acquired by TH Lee), Idera (acquired by Partners Group), Denodo Technologies (recapitalized by TPG Growth), Dealer-FX (acquired by Snap-on), iCongo / hybris Software (acquired by SAP), Serena Software (acquired by Micro Focus), BigMachines (acquired by Oracle), Granicus (acquired by Vista Equity Partners), Internet Brands (acquired by KKR), and ServiceNow (NYSE: NOW). He started his career in technology M&A at Union Square Advisors.
